Women will receive greater accommodations related to pregnancies as the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act is put into action
The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act was signed by the President in late 2022, and the law has recently gone into effect. This act provides pregnant working women with reasonable accommodations associated with pregnancy and childbirth conditions. The accommodations greatly improve the working environment for pregnant women and postpartum mothers. Time off accommodations will allow mothers to have time to rest and recover after childbirth. Other accommodations include flexibility for women to attend doctor appointments, the ability to work remotely, and shifting away from work that involves manual labor and chemicals. This law protects women from losing their job after maternity leave, and will no longer make women choose between taking care of themselves after childbirth or working to provide financial support for their family.
