Work Can Be Stressful, Dangerous And Sometimes Great
According to a new study published this week, American employees are being pushed further and further at work, revealing a host of risks to mental and physical health. Overall, around 20% of workers have experienced verbal abuse, threats, humiliating behavior, or unwanted sexual attention at work within the past month, or have experienced bullying or sexual harassment in the past year. Men without college degrees were more likely to report experiencing verbal abuse, most prevalent in customer service jobs, while young and middle-aged women were most likely to report receiving unwanted sexual attention. 55% of those surveyed report being exposed to physical risks about 25% of the time, and 70% of those surveyed have reported intense physical exertion on the job at least one-fourth of the time, which research shows could be a contributing factor to why some older workers may retire early.
