Workers at an EV battery plant in Ohio vote on whether to unionize in push for better workplace safety
This week, workers at Ultium Cells, an electric-vehicle battery plant in Ohio, will vote on whether to unionize and join the United Auto Workers union. The workers are hoping to unionize in order to demand better pay and improve safety conditions in the plant. Additionally, the pro-union workers at Ultium Cells are hoping to re-invigorate union presence in the auto industry as many human jobs are currently threatened by the switch to electric car production. As a result, the outcome of this union vote could potentially have a large impact on the EV battery industry, which is currently overwhelmingly non-unionized.
