Smart & Final, a chain of warehouse stores in California, will experience certain shortages at their stores this holiday season. Customers will see fewer fruits and vegetables, cereal items, and other basic products due to workers going on strike. Smart & Final workers, who are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union, have been on strike since the beginning of November after it was announced that the Smart & Final locations in Commerce and Riverside were set to close, and 600 workers would be laid off. The company plans to move affected workers to a larger Smart & Final location in Rancho Cucamonga but will force workers to reapply for positions, and these positions offer lower pay. The union is seeking to bargain a new contract that will protect workers and their jobs and stated that employees will return to work after negotiations begin.
