Workers' compensation deal faces fierce opposition
The proposed overhaul to California's workers' compensation system is facing resistance. Lawyers who represent injured workers are opposing the bill, which they say will give control to insurance companies. The changes have developed between labor unions and large employers, and are designed to increase benefits to workers who are permanently disabled. The extra payments would come from streamlining and reducing payments to third parties, including lawyers, doctors and administrators. The bill is expected to be introduced before the end of Legislative session.
