Workers' protest in Panama leaves 1 dead, 100 injured, government says
Panamanian plantation workers have been on strike since July 2, closing down much of Bocas del Toro, and a violent protest on Thursday resulted in a death and more than 100 injuries. Labor leaders dispute the claim, saying that four people were killed. The protest was over a new law which restricts the rights of workers to strike. Some protesters have been arrested, and four police officers are being held. Government officials say that they will negotiate for the officers release. Workers and officials are in talks today.
