Workers renovating Maracana Stadium for World Cup go on strike over better conditions
Today the nearly 2000 workers renovating Maracana Stadium in Brazil have gone on strike citing unsafe working conditions. The extensive renovations to Maracana Stadium are being done to meet requirements of FIFA and the International Olympic Committee. The Stadium is to be hosting the 2013 Confederations Cup, the 2014 World Cup, and the 2016 Olympics. A union leader claims the work stoppage began when a worker broke his leg due to unsafe conditions.
