Workers strike at three Hiltons
Continuing the string of walkouts at Hilton Hotels, workers at the Hilton Chicago Hotel began a three-day strike on Saturday, following the examples of workers in Honolulu and San Francisco. The strike is over what the union who represents the workers, Unite Here, says are cheap contracts. Workers in Chicago say that they are protesting the bailout of Hilton through deals from the government, while the company will not bargain their contract fairly. Hilton says that they are bargaining in good faith. The union is asking for a 7% wage increase, while the company is pushing for higher room quotas for housekeepers, a move the union says could cause more workers injuries.
