Workers Strike Over Pay at Hong Kong Port Backed by Li Ka-shing
Hon Kong dock workers are staging a sit-in to protest for higher wages. The 100 workers are asking for a pay increase of $1.61. The workers are employed by contractors, and the company that owns the port said that they cannot negotiate with the workers, adding that they had asked the contractors to increase wages by 5% this year. The company said that the workers' demands were directed at the contractors, but that a prolonged protest could hurt the company as a whole.
