Workers told to stay on job as CAW talks continue
With a strike deadline of midnight on Monday, the Canadian Auto Workers are hoping to reach an agreement with Ford. If the union and Ford can agree, the deal would be taken to General Motors and Chrysler to be matched. The union told workers this morning that they need to stay on the job in order for negotiations to be productive. Ford has been the most receptive to the CAW's plan to reduce wages for new hires without implementing a two-tier wage system, which Chrysler and GM say is necessary. Canadian workers represent about 16% of car production in North America.
