World faces lost decade of joblessness, ILO warns
In its annual World of Work report published Monday, the International Labor Organization made its prognosis for a decade of stunted worldwide job growth. It forecast that employment numbers in developed economies will not recover to pre-financial crisis levels until 2017. Citing longer leaves of unemployment and increasing numbers of discouraged workers abandoning the job search altogether, the report predicted global unemployment numbers to reach 208 million by 2015. The report also indicated that growing economic inequality could lead to social unrest and called for governments to implement new employment and social policies.
