Writers Guild of America and production studios will reopen contract negotiations
Contract negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and studios in Hollywood will resume this week. Members of the Writers Guild of America have been on strike for over one hundred days, having begun strike again in May. Production studios’ revenue has been significantly impacted by the halting of filming of all productions, with the companies losing $300 million -$500 million in revenue. The key demands that the union is seeking are standardized compensation for writers in the industry, as well as residual payments from streaming and theatrical production revenue. The union is also calling for AI regulations as the use of article intelligence in the entertainment industry steadily increases, and the WGA is also seeking improved benefits and pension funds.
