The Writers Guild of America has initiated negotiations with a number of smaller, independent production companies in the face of stalled talks with the major TV and film studios. With companies like David Letterman's Worldwide Pants Inc. showing interest, the writers hope that enough smaller producers will sign on to jump-start the larger negotiation process.
