Years later, immigrant workers at meat plant in Tennessee win settlement agreement regarding immigration enforcement at the workplace
On Monday, immigrant workers who were rounded up at a meat processing plant in Tennessee in 2018 won a settlement agreement against the US government and agents for the use of excessive force and racial profiling. As a result, members included in the class action lawsuit will receive monetary payments as compensation for wrongful acts by the government, as per the Federal Torts Claim Act. Furthermore, advocacy groups are working to secure permanent legal residency for the affected immigrant workers. According to experts, this is most likely the first class settlement regarding immigration enforcement at a workplace and a rare legal victory for undocumented workers in the US.
