Union leader calls on L.A. teachers to boycott Times
After the Los Angeles Times began publishing ratings of teachers using an analysis of test scores, the head of United Teachers Los Angeles is calling on the union's 40,000 members to cancel their subscriptions to the Times in protest. The president of the union said that the ratings, and the database that the Times plans to create were another attack on teachers and that they were looking into the legal side of the database. He also questioned the accuracy of ratings based on test scores, rather than taking into account other factors as well. The paper plans to publish the database later this month after teachers have commented.
