Firefighters to learn to recognize and report sex and labor crimes
The San Diego District Attorney's Office will begin a training program next month to teach firefighters and ambulance personnel how to recognize and report sex and labor trafficking crimes to law enforcement. Sex trafficking is estimated to be a multi-million dollar industry in the United States. The rationale behind the program is that by increasing the number of people who can identify signs of exploitative labor, more cases will be reported, ultimately leading to more lives saved. Approximately 3,000 firefighters will receive the training which consists of a video and tips focused on common "red flags" associated with trafficking.
