The Effects of Poor Sleep on the Workplace
Poor sleep affect approximately 70% of Americans, increasing their risk of shortened lifespan and death. Although sleeping is not something that most people do at work, work does inhibit most employee’s sleep schedules. Research has shown that low amounts of sleep can greatly affect job performance and safety. Though sleep is not something you typically do at work, work schedules and job stress affect sleep, and poor sleep can affect job performance and safety at work. Jobs that don’t prescribe to the typical 9-5 schedule such as police officers, firefights, truck drivers and healthcare workers and especially at risk for workplace fatigue due to a lack of sleep.
