First responders in Philadelphia who are employed by American Medical Response, will be laid off at the beginning of next year due to the company’s contract coming to an end with Main Line Health. American Medical Response is a medical transportation and mobile healthcare provider that employs first responders, which includes EMTs, EMS students, nurses, and paramedics. American Medical Response announced that 152 workers will be affected by the layoffs, and layoffs will occur in three waves in January and February. American Medical Response worked for Main Line Health for six years, and during these years over 200 full-time and part-time employees worked to serve Main Line Health. American Medical Response is a part of the Global Medical Response, which provides medical and transportation services worldwide and employs over 38,000 workers. American Medical Response will continue to provide medical services in the Philadelphia area to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The company will provide relocation allowances to affected employees to transfer to a different position in American Medical Response and will work to connect affected employees with other EMS agencies. Main Line Health will use Ambulnz, a subsidiary company of DocGo, to provide medical transportation services for the next three years.
