Amazon air hub workers seek to unionize
Amazon employees at the company’s largest air hub in Kentucky have been working towards union representation. Workers claim that Amazon has been implementing anti-union and union-busting measures at the air hub. These measures include workers who have participated in union efforts receiving write-ups and disciplinary action. Unionization efforts have increased throughout the past year, as workers seek greater starting pay, double pay for overtime hours, free childcare, and professional translation. Union organization efforts have included the signing and collection of union authorization cards to turn in to the National Labor Relations Board. Amazon has been strongly anti-union and has refused to acknowledge union elections that occurred at various Amazon locations in the United States. The company has spent millions of dollars hiring union avoidance consultants to shut down worker unionization efforts. Amazon workers in half of the states in America have filed unfair labor practice charges against the company, and the National Labor Relations Board is currently reviewing these cases.
