aircraft maker Cessna to cut 1,300 more jobs
Kansas-based aircraft production company Cessna, one of the country's largest, has announced that it will be making 1,300 job cuts this summer, bringing the company's total layoffs to over 50% of its workforce since the start of the recession. About 800 employees will receive pink slips within the week, and another 500 will be let go after the three week furlough planned for the beginning of July. The company has also said that an additional three-week furlough is being planned for an as-yet-unspecified date. Cessna warned its employees about a week ago that more cuts were coming, but the workers do not know yet how many people will lose their jobs. CEO Jack Pelton says that even with hope of a coming recovery, order cancellations have not stopped coming.
