Boeing has suffered billions of dollars in losses due to worker strike
Boeing workers have been on strike for over five weeks and the strike action has cost the company billions of dollars. Boeing reported 6.2 billion dollars in losses in the third quarter, and the company’s losses will continue to grow as unionized workers choose to reject the current tentative agreement. The agreement offered a wage increase of thirty-five percent over the next four years, a seven thousand dollar ratification bonus for every worker, as well as productivity bonuses. Workers are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and union members casted votes on Wednesday and a majority of workers voted to reject ratifying the contract. Various workers have stated that they voted to reject ratifying the contract because it did not bring back pension plans that were cut in 2014. Other employees also stated that they did not vote in favor of the agreement because it cut healthcare benefits and has increased premiums and out-of-pocket healthcare costs.
