California CVS employees to vote on strike authorization
Thousands of CVS workers in California are set to vote on strike authorization this week. Employees are demanding better healthcare benefits, higher wages, and improved safety measures. Full-time workers state that they do not earn enough to afford health insurance, while CVS owns a healthcare insurance company, Aetna, and is the second largest healthcare company in the world. Employees also frequently work in understaffed stores and have to deal with theft, without any security measure to protect them. Workers are represented by the United Food and Commercial union, and the union has filed various unfair labor practice claims against CVS. The claims state that CVS has used intimidation tactics against unionized workers, and has also tried to restrict workers from talking to union representatives.
