Cleveland Orchestra and musicians reach labor deal
A tentative agreement was announced this morning between the Cleveland Orchestra and the musician's union, the Cleveland Federation of Unions. The CFU is represented by Local 4 of the national American Federation of Unions. Their previous contract expired at the end of August 2009 and negotiations have been on-going ever since. The musicians finally began a strike on Sunday morning for the first time in over 30 years after several weeks of stalled negotiations over pay. A union spokesman confirmed that a tentative agreement was reached early Tuesday, but no details have been released until after the contract has been discussed and ratified by union members. If possible, the union hopes to ratify the agreement by Wednesday morning but it is not yet clear whether performances scheduled in Miami and Indiana University will be able to go on.
