Getting back to work after unemployment
Those who are unemployed can be encouraged to know that there are signs of an improving labor market. Temporary staffing firms employed 50,000 more workers per day nationwide in the second quarter than the first, and employers expect a 12.7 percent increase in college graduate hiring this school year. Gary Huth, labor market analyst for the New York Department of Labor, says that now is a good time for people to reenter the labor market, but he cautions that some areas such as information technology and some financial areas will remain resistant to new hires.
