Higher pay may be layoff target
As the economy continues to struggle, higher-paid workers could be in danger of losing their jobs to younger workers who can be paid less. An increase in age-bias claims by older workers, escalating benefit costs, and the increasing use of temporary workers seem to point to the fact that pay level is being considered when layoff decisions are made.
