Hospital's residents win OK for union
Doctors-in-training at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital have been awarded the right to unionize by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The drive to unionize at Lutheran General was the first case in the country to test a landmark 1999 NLRB ruling allowing doctors-in-training to bargain collectively at private hospitals. It is expected that the ruling may encourage medical residents nationwide to form unions to improve pay, benefits and working conditions.
