Muslim Men Settle Suit Over Workplace Abuse
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has settled a lawsuit brought on behalf of four Pakistan-born men, who alleged employment discrimination against their former employer, Herrick Corp. All four had been employed at a steel plant owned by Herrick and said they were abused
by co-workers who ridiculed their turbans and Muslim prayers and called them derogatory names. A spokesman for Herrick Corp. denied the allegations and said Herrick settled the case to avoid the risk and expense of continued litigation. EEOC figures show an increase complaints of discrimination by Muslim Americans since September 11.
