New York City to Ban Discrimination Based on Hair
The New York City Commission on Human Rights will be releasing a new law that states that discrimination based on hairstyle is considered racial discrimination. The development of this law was prompted by cases of workers receiving unnecessary feedback on their hairstyles in the workplace. As a result of the new policy, individuals found guilty of discrimination based on hairstyle will face a penalty of up to $250,000. Additionally, the Commission has the ability to force workplace policy changes and rehiring of workers who have faced discrimination.
