Retailer accommodates Sunday observers
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Meijer Inc after an employee was fired for refusing to work on a Sunday for religious reasons. The employee claims that she lined up a replacement for her Sunday shift, but the company refused to allow the switch. The company has settled the lawsuit with the dismissed worker and has agreed to give supervisors training on how to avoid religious discrimination and allow shift switching.
