San Diego judge rules Instacart misclassified workers
A judge in San Diego has just ruled that Instacart has misclassified its California workers and is not in compliance with the new gig economy law. The new law requires that gig economy workers are classified as employees rather than independent contractors. Instacart has stated that the firm disagrees with the injunction decision, and claims to be in compliance with the law. The order will not take effect immediately, however it is a first step in defining and enforcing the new law.
