Stellantis delays reopening of assembly plant in Illinois due to uncertain market conditions
Stellantis pledged to reopen a closed Illinois assembly plant in the contract between the automotive company and the United Auto Workers union reached last year. Stellantis has pushed back the reopening of the plant, and the company has not announced a set date for the reopening. The company has cited low sales and profits and uncertain market conditions. The plant permanently shut down operations in early 2023, and 1350 workers lost their jobs. The plant would create 2700 positions, as Stellantis is also supposed to open a new parts warehouse and a battery plant. The delay in the factory reopening has workers worried that Stellantis will also push back or not meet other measures in the union contract.
