UK gov?t to cut welfare budget as election nears
Yesterday the British finance minister announced welfare cuts of about 12 billion pounds annually for two years. The action may be the continued effort of the Conservatives party attempting to rein in spending after the Labour party ran budget deficits until 2010 when they lost power. With an election only 16 months away it is unclear how British workers will react to the weakening social safety net. The Conservatives have raised the tax-free allowance and suggest that while cutting taxes, the government must also cut what those taxes would have paid for.
