Representatives of Giant Food LLC, Safeway Inc. and the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 have agreed to a new contract for Washington area grocery workers, avoiding a strike. The negotiations were influenced by the recent labor disputes in California. Both sides were aware of the hardships that went along with a strike, making them more willing to reach a compromise.
