Workers Often Face Hurdles Forming Unions
Unions across the country are planning events for International Human Rights Day that discuss the ways in which employers are fighting the formation of unions. Labor leaders say that employers are using aggressive and often illegal tactics to fight unions. A worker at Wal-Mart claims that he has been subjected to threats and discriminatory treatment since he started advocating for a union. The AFL-CIO wants legislation that would allow union certification after a majority signs authorization cards, eliminating the need for a lengthy election process.
